A FUN GAME: Head vs. Heart

Last week we talked about intentional rest which led me to the topic of inner guidance and learning to discern your mind from your higher self / inner being. With that in mind let’s talk about learning to know the difference and how to set aside your ego (or try).

Guidance from your Heart

Let’s start here. I’m sure we have all heard, “listen to your heart” or “what does your gut say”. These statements might resonate with you, or they might not. Why is this? Because we are all different, which means that we all receive our messages differently. You might get a gut reaction, I might feel it in my heart, someone else might get a visualization, another a knowing, etc.

How can you discern your truth? Your guidance?

Here is a fun game you can play with yourself, or a friend. Get comfortable, in a place where you feel safe and calm. Take a few deep breaths. Then you can ask yourself the following questions or say the following statements:

  1. My name is [say your name]

  2. My name is Cassandra [or another name that is not yours]

Notice how these felt in your body. Try again if you didn’t feel a difference. It can be so subtle!

Now try it with some other true / false statements:

  • I live [real location]

  • I live [fake location]

  • I am [your age] / [fake age]

  • I like [cats / dogs / fish / snakes]

You get the idea. Notice how these true false statements feel in your body. When you say the true statement, do you get any specific feelings? Any sensations? Maybe you have no reaction to the true, but your body reacts to the false. When you make a false statement do you feel your gut clench? Heart tightens? Head pound? A chocking or throat dryness? A voice in your head pointing out its false. Anything else I didn’t mention? Play with that a few times. Maybe you get nothing for the first few tries, that is ok too. Remember, we are programmed and conditioned not to trust ourselves and our inner knowing. So, we can be very disconnected from self, especially our bodies.

When you feel like you can discern a difference, try some questions:

  1. Am I happy in this moment?

  2. If no; What would make me happy?

  3. What makes my heart fulfilled?

  4. How do I want to feel in 5 years?

  5. Anything else, make up whatever questions you want.

When you are answering these questions be aware of how the answers feel in your body. Also be aware of the first answer that comes to you. Often that is your higher self, before your ego / mind can step in. This is fun to do with a friend because you don’t already have an answer, you have to answer on the spot, so your ego is less prepared. Do this as many times as you want, with whatever questions that you want. Notice if you get a feeling, sensation, visualization, knowing, sound, etc.

Knowing or Hearing Your Truth

To confuse the matter, you may still “hear” the answer, that doesn’t automatically mean it is your ego vs. your heart. You have discerned how the truth feels in your body so that you know the difference between true and false. Maybe you visualize your guidance, that doesn’t always mean it’s your ego playing you a reel, this can still be a message, pay attention to how it feels. If you see something, but it feels yucky in your body it might be false or low vibrations. If you see something and it feels light and free, it might be a message / truth.

Take some time to play with all this. It can be weird at first, and again, we are conditioned not to trust ourselves, so this is a great unlearning and reprogramming. This might take months or even years for you. You might need lots of time to learn to trust your messages and follow your flow, live with intention. But that is ok. Every time you try you are that much closer. Every time you connect to your inner being you are telling the Universe (Source / God / Infinite Wisdom / WhateverYouWantToCallIt) that you are open to receiving love, support and guidance. We have talked about this before, every being has free will. When you are disconnected from self that is like you sending a signal out that you want to be on your own, you don’t need support and guidance, the Universe (or WYWTCI) cannot force wisdom and knowledge upon you. You must ask to receive (or at least be connected and open to receive). A heart-led, connected space is where you receive wisdom and guidance, at least from the positive polarities.

You can bookmark and come back to this whenever you feel you need to reconnect. The Universe (or WYWTCI) is not judging you. If you disconnect, acknowledge it with love, and choose again.

Remember, you can always start over.

Enjoy!
